Painter 11

2 min read
Random details I've noticed in 11:
- File icons now show a preview of the image itself.
- The fill command, as well as the transform commands, have been moved from Effects to Edit.
- Color management now seems to be on by default. (Can be turned off by clicking the monitor icon in the file window. I'm not sure how to turn this off globally. You may need to change your settings to make sure the colors are consistent across programs, if you use Photoshop or other graphics programs that use color profiles.)
- Recent files have been moved up in the File menu, below open.
- The welcome screen can be turned off/on.
- The program checks for updates online at start; this can be turned off/on.
- The polygonal selection tool can be used to make irregularly-shaped selections as well.
- Hard Media controls seem to interfere with some brushes. It doesn't affect all brushes that HM settings could affect; it's only a few brushes out of hundreds. Will look further into this; it may just be a matter of settings interfering with each other.

All of this is aside from the notable updates/changes (check the Corel website for changes between X and 11). There are probably things I've missed due to not using certain tools often. 11 does seem to run a little faster than X for me, but as noted by Corel, that's probably dependent on one's computer etc.

ETA: Forgot to mention, the new "real pencil" brushes look very good. They're not 100% realistic, but they come pretty damn close.

QUICK NOTICE

2 min read
Painter 11 is out, in case you hadn't noticed. I'll comment on this as soon as I get it (which may take a few weeks). In the meantime, you can judge yourself from the list of new/changed features whether you should upgrade. I hesitate to say anything either way, since whether those features are useful to you really depends on whether you use any of those tools often.

I'm sorry for not updating more often; my RL is extremely busy.

(NB. I am planning to make a brush creator tutorial eventually, in bits and pieces. It's just that a comprehensive brush creator tutorial would have to literally be multi-part and extremely detailed, and would take me an extremely long time to organize and create. I'm not familiar with all of the options, either.

If you're looking for a short-term solution, it's better to just experiment. Particularly since some additions have been made to brush options with v.11, and I'd like to familiarize myself with those before making tutorials for that. And I haven't even bought the upgrade yet.

So don't expect brush creator tutorials until April at least.)

UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

25th August 2008
Still alive!

. . .

General Info.
I'm making Corel Painter resources, since a lot of people seem to have trouble with it and there seem to be less tutorials (proportionately, at any rate) for it than for Photoshop.

If you know of Painter tutorials outside of this account or dA in general, feel free to contribute; I'll be making a list of them at some point.

[This is a personal project and has absolutely nothing to do with the Corel people. Later I'll add more stuff. And I do have my own art account, I just don't feel like sharing it here.]
